How to Choose an RFID Antenna: Linear vs. Circular Polarization

What's the RFID antenna doing in the system?

RFID Reader is responsible for generating, receiving and processing radio frequency signals, and antennas are responsible for converting port signals to radio frequency cover in space and receiving labels for returning signals.

Antenna parameters cannot be understood from the area of operations. The warehouse door needs to cover the route through, desktop positions need to be limited in a small range, and smart cabinets need to combine inner and outer compartmentalization.

What difference does RFID make between polarization and RFID?

Comparative itemLine polarizationCircular Polarization
PolarizationThe direction of the field is relatively fixed. The direction of the field changes with the transmission.
Label Orientation RequirementsIt's usually better when a label antenna matches.Usually more adaptable to label rotation and directional changes
Overwrite CharacteristicsA scenario that is more stable and that wants to focus on energy.Fits to a scenario where the label direction is not or will be moved
Common applicationsProduction, directional transport and desktop recognitionWarehousing corridors, mobile inventories and areas with more directional changes

Circle polarization is not natural better than linear polarization. When labels are fixed and can match antennas, line polarization may be more appropriate; when direction is random, Circumpolarization is usually more likely to be consistent and ultimately requires real label testing.

What factors are the RFID antenna selections to consider?

  • Whether the orientation of the label antenna is fixed and rotates when passing through the area
  • Target reading distance and permitted non-target reading range
  • Need to form a wide, narrow, peri-urban or distant area coverage
  • An antenna can be installed at height, angle, space and length of feeder
  • Materials of the object and surrounding metal, liquid, wall and equipment structures

How do we deploy multiple RFID antennas?

A warehouse door and channel may be placed on the side, top or relative position by way of a label; a smart cabinet needs to be covered by a layer, door and metal structure; a fixed work area should avoid covering adjacent workspaces.

Multi- antenna deployments are to record the physical location of each port and combine the trigger sensors, reading time sequences and software area rules.

Deployment programmes should be repeatedly validated through field samples, real quantities and different directions, with complete testing availableWhat should the RFID project field test test be?。

Is the RFID antenna as good as the more it is?

The number of antennas should be determined by the target area, operational nodes and test results.

If you miss, you should first confirm the label, direction, material installed and existing coverage of the weak, and then decide to adjust the angle or add an antenna. Why is the RFID missing? The common reason and the way it was checked.。

FAQs

The more RFID antennas, the better?

No. The antenna should cover the target area and meet the operational nodes, and an excessive number may increase the complexity of overlapping coverage, serial reading, port-to-port queries and debugging.

Is it better to polarize the antenna than the antenna?

Not necessarily. Circle polarization is usually more adaptable to changes in label orientation, and linear polarization may be more appropriate when the label direction is fixed and matched, and should be tested according to field conditions.

Does RFID antenna installation have any importance?

Important. Antenna direction affects the coverage of areas and the polarization of the label antenna, and an angle change may lead to weak areas or extend non-target areas.

Can a RFID Reader connect to multiple antennas?

Many fixed RFID Reader provide multiple antenna ports, but the number, mode of inquiry and power configuration of support vary by type and require confirmation by equipment specification and operational segment.
